Thillaivilagam Kothanda Ramar Temple, a Dhandakaranya Kshetram, whose legend dates back to the period of Ramayana. When Sri Rama was on His way back to Ayodhya, after defeating the demon Ravana, He stayed here in the ashram of Baradwaja Mahirishi.
But Hanuman reminded Sri Rama of His promise to Baratha that , He will return back to Ayodhya at the stipulated time. By hearing this Sita devi suggested a solution and asked Anjaneya to carry curd rice to Bharatha with the message that they were on their way as promised. It is strongly believed that offering curd rice to Anjaneya here in Thillaivilagam would liberate all the devotee from their problems associated with their marriage and solve all their navagriha dosham. The curd rice is packed on Anjaneya and is not distributed to the devotees. The majestic 5 Feet Sri Rama is blessing as Moolavar in His Standing Posture with a smile along with Sita Devi on His right. On a close look at His hands, we can able to see the nerves, the ring , the sharp nails, the sharp distinctive fingers on each hand just like a human hand. Here Hanuman blesses as Graha Dhosha Nivarthi Hanuman in His Dasa Posture, with His right hand close to His mouth in a posture of whispering something to His Lord Sri Rama.
Here Moolvar Sri Rama is with the distinctive marks. Devotees can able to also see clearly the nerves and moles on the legs of Sri Rama and to see the knee cap on both the legs of the Almighty. On His left leg, devotees can find a Raksha bandhan tied by His mother Kausalya when Rama was young to protect him from evil forces. A Majestic Blessing Posture of Veera Kothandarama here in Thillai Vilagam is similar in His Facial Posture of Him at Baalya Rama of Mudikondan, Hathambavur Rama of Sri Vanjiyam, Eri Kaatha Rama of Madurantakam and Saligrama Rama of Punnai Nallur near Tanjore. Sri Rama used His Unique Arrow only thrice during his life time. The first time was in Chitrakoodam. While he was resting on Sita’s lap during their exile life , the demon named Kakasuran took the form of a crow and pecked on Sita Devi. As blood started flowing, a drop fell on Rama waking him from His sleep. Realising what had happened, Sri Rama let go His Unique arrow at the crow. Frightened Asura surrendered to the Lord and gave away an eye in liberation of his wrong doing. Hence, even now crows cannot see straight. Second time Sri Rama used the arrow to kill Vaali in Kishkinda and the third occasion was to kill the demon Ravana in Srilanka.
